In 1983, Vanessa Williams was the first African American Miss America. She was pressured to resign after nude pictures of her were released on Penthouse magazine. She stepped down from her position renouncing various endorsement deals. Nevertheless, she was allowed to keep her crown, her scholarship money, and the official title of Miss America 1984.


32 years later, singer-Actress Vanessa Williams returned to Miss America not only as a performer, but also as the head judge of the pageant.

After a beautiful performance Miss America’s CEO, Sam Haskell, joined her on stage to give her a long overdue public apology.
